Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced on Tuesday, Oct. 18, that Annmarie Donadeo, of Copiague, admitted to driving while intoxicated and killing Travis Kinard in a crash on Aug. 24, 2021.

“This tragedy could have been avoided if the defendant didn’t drive drunk, period,” Tierney said. “Instead, she chose to endanger Suffolk County residents through her selfish and senseless conduct and in the process caused the death of an innocent individual who was simply retrieving items from a parked vehicle.”

At about 9:10 p.m. on the night of the crash, Donadeo, who was 50 years old at the time, drove a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer on Hawkins Boulevard in Copiague after spending about four-and-a-half hours drinking at a local bar, Tierney said.

Donadeo was driving south as Kinard retrieved Legos from the back of a minivan that was parked in front of his girlfriend's house, according to the announcement.

While Kinard was between the minivan and a parked Hyundai Elantra, Donadeo struck the Elantra, causing Kinard to become pinned between the two parked vehicles, the DA's Office said.

Tierney reported that Donadeo's Chevrolet continued a short distance before it became disabled.

Kinard was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the report.

Police observed signs of intoxication while speaking to Donadeo, and she performed poorly on field sobriety tests, the DA's Office said.

Toxicology testing revealed that her BAC was .21 percent, Tierney said.

The DA's Office said Donadeo also pleaded guilty to aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Tierney said Donadeo is expected to receive a sentence of four to 12 years in prison.

Her sentencing is set for Feb. 15, according to the report.
